Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and Military Prosecution Counsel (Captain) in the SA National Defence Force (part-time). Aifheli Enos Tshivhase obtained his B Juris and LL.B degrees at the University of Venda and was then awarded a scholarship by the Centre for Human Rights to read for an LL.M in Human Rights and Democracy in Africa at the University of Pretoria and the University Ghana in 2000. After completing his LLM, he served an internship at the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa and thereafter joined the Constitutional Court where he served as a law clerk to Judge Kate O'Regan. He moved on to explore military interests and joined the regular force of the South African National Defence Force in 2002 as a Military Defence Counsel where he started as an officer with the rank of Lieutenant. After serving in the military for two years he joined UCT in 2004 where he teaches constitutional law, criminal procedure, law and regional integration in Africa and international human rights law and the constitution. He was recently appointed by the Minister of Justice to serve on the advisory committee looking into the review of defence legislation to ensure its compliance with the Constitution of South Africa. He is currently on a one year long sabbatical and a recipient of the Fox International Fellowship at Yale University in the United States of America. Tshivhase's research interests are military justice, the right to work and law and regional integration in Africa.
