DGRU's report on the SADC judges’ forum in Windhoek
From the 8th – 10th of May 2015, DGRU facilitated its second SADC judges forum in Windhoek, Namibia. The forum gave judges from around the SADC region an opportunity to meet and discuss important issues of mutual interest in a safe, reflective space. This year’s forum focused on themes of balancing deference to other branches of government with judges’ duty to apply the constitution; and judicial case management. The forum was positively received, and delegates expressed an interest in establishing an association of judges to take up some of the issues discussed. There was strong support for further forums and the continued involvement of the DGRU in them. Delegates made numerous suggestions of topics, and other ways in which the DGRU could assist judges in the region.
